The 1 Series has been a go-to for property owners for years, and now it’s getting a refresh. John Deere redesigned this popular lineup for model year 2027 with more capability and comfort in mind. From an optional factory HVAC cab to better ergonomics and easier attachment work, the new 1 Series brings plenty of upgrades worth the hype. Here’s everything you need to know before you shop.
The first thing you’ll notice about the 2027 lineup is the new model names. Here’s how they match up with the tractors you already know.
The new names follow the same logic as Deere’s larger compact and utility tractors. The letter shows the trim level: E is entry, M is mid and R is premium. The number points to the horsepower class.
You might also notice the 1 Series now has three models instead of two. That’s no mistake. The 1R 25 replaces the 2025R, which was part of the 2 Series. The 2025R was built on a bigger frame than the sub-compact 1 Series. That’s why the 1R 25 has a longer wheelbase and more lift than the other two models.
Along with new names come new features. The 2027 1 Series brings upgrades aimed at comfort, easier upkeep and year-round use.
Factory HVAC cab (1M 25 and 1R 25). This may be the biggest change in the lineup. The 1M 25 and 1R 25 can now be equipped with a factory-installed, all-weather cab. It keeps you comfortable whether you’re clearing snow in New York and Pennsylvania or mowing through a hot Missouri or Illinois summer.
One-piece hood. The new hood opens wide, up to 77 degrees. That gives you clear access to the engine for routine checks like oil and filters. Less time fighting with the hood means more time getting work done.
Operator comfort. A redesigned fender console improves ergonomics, so operating the tractor feels more intuitive. A new digital fuel gauge is easier to read at a glance. On the 1M 25 and 1R 25, standard tilt steering lets you adjust the wheel to fit you.
Easier loader work. A factory-installed third-function option lets you run hydraulic attachments like a grapple. It now ties into the single-point hydraulic connector option. That means the hydraulic lines connect and disconnect together, so taking the loader off is quicker and easier.
Mower-ready. A mid-lift ready option lets the tractor carry a mid-mount mower deck. With the AutoConnect mid-mower deck, you can drive on to attach it and drive off to remove it. You never have to leave the seat, so switching from loader work to mowing is quick.
LED lighting. Better lighting helps on early mornings and short winter evenings. LED headlights are standard on the 1M 25 and 1R 25, and the 1R 25 adds standard front LED work lights. Every model offers optional front and rear LED work lights.
Smart Connector (1M 25 and 1R 25). This standard feature links to the John Deere Equipment Mobile app. You’ll get real-time machine data, maintenance alerts and service insights right on your phone.

The 1E 23 replaces the 1023E. Think of it as the next step up from a riding mower. It’s a good fit for first-time tractor buyers who mostly mow and handle light property work. It has 21.5 gross hp, 16.2 PTO hp, 758 lb of lift and a 57.1-inch wheelbase. The 1E 23 comes in an open-station version only, and it’s well suited to spring cleanup and fall chores. Highlights include a hydro transmission with TwinTouch pedals and compatibility with the AutoConnect mid-mower deck.
The 1M 25 replaces the 1025R. With more horsepower and added features, it’s the all-around middle choice for owners who want comfort and versatility. It has 23.9 gross hp and 18.2 PTO hp, with the same lift and wheelbase as the 1E 23. The difference is in the extras. Upgrades include an optional HVAC cab, tilt steering and a marine-grade vinyl seat with a deluxe suspension system.
The 1R 25 replaces the 2025R and is the most capable tractor in the lineup. It’s the best choice for owners who like the 1 Series size but need more strength for bigger loads. It lifts up to 915 lb and has a longer 63-inch wheelbase for added stability. It also offers an optional HVAC cab and larger tire options for better traction and higher ground clearance. Handy extras include a 12V outlet, a USB-C port and a toolbox.
All three tractors share the same core strengths. The right pick depends on the jobs you do most and how much of the year you plan to use it. Here’s a simple way to sort it out.
Choose the 1E 23 if your list is mostly mowing, light loader work and seasonal chores. It’s the entry point to the lineup, with 21.5 hp and the same 758 lb of lift as the 1M 25. If you’re stepping up from a riding mower, this is a natural first tractor.
Choose the 1M 25 if you want more comfort and plan to use your tractor all year. It adds standard cruise control and tilt steering, plus the option of a factory HVAC cab. It’s a good fit for owners who mow in summer, haul mulch in spring and clear the driveway in winter.
Choose the 1R 25 if you do heavier loader work or have rougher ground to cover. Its 63-inch wheelbase adds stability, and it can lift 915 lb, the most in the 1 Series. Standard front LED work lights also help on short winter days.
Where you live plays a role too. In New York and Pennsylvania, snow often sets the schedule. A cab on the 1M 25 or 1R 25 can keep you working through the cold months. In Missouri and Illinois, many owners care for acreage, gardens and long gravel lanes. There, the extra lift of the 1R 25 or the value of the 1E 23 may be the better match.
