Since John Deere released See & Spray, farmers have been using the innovative technology to increase yield, reduce herbicide usage, and optimize their operations for the growing season. The boom-mounted cameras and processors scan more than 2,500 square feet per second at speeds up to 15 mph, identifying weeds and triggering individual ExactApply nozzles. Over 5 million acres were covered in 2025, and now the technology is expanding. John Deere has continued building on that momentum for 2026 with meaningful hardware, licensing, and crop support updates. Here's what's new and who should consider upgrading.
Expanding its reach from corn, soybeans, and cotton, See & Spray nearly doubled its crop compatibility, now supporting wheat, barley (broadleaf only), canola (broadleaf only), peanuts, and sugar beets. This is highly beneficial for Missouri and Illinois growers running wheat rotations or diversified operations, giving them a clearer path to adoption.
See & Spray is now available through a single platform, consolidating the previous Select, Premium, and Ultimate tiers for John Deere 400 and 600 Series sprayers. Streamlined hardware means fewer points of failure. The new center-frame camera, available as a Precision Upgrade Kit for MY18–MY26, improves detection and reduces dust interference. MY27 sprayers add optional full boom lighting and speeds up to 16 mph, depending on crop and configuration. A four-wheel steering option has also been added to the 400 Series chassis, previously available only on Hagie sprayers.
Variable Rate is now included across the full Gen 2 platform, allowing you to use inputs more efficiently and reduce environmental impact. The system's cameras determine how much herbicide a crop needs and adjust application accordingly. Operators can set biomass thresholds to control application rates — for example, turning off application below 40% biomass, or maximizing the rate at lower biomass to help a struggling crop catch up. This results in less over-application, a stretched herbicide budget, and more in-season control.
See & Spray now includes an Unlimited Annual License for high-use operations, designed to simplify per-acre planning and give customers more control over in-season decisions. Usage-based pricing remains available, backed by John Deere's Application Savings Guarantee — if See & Spray doesn't deliver measurable savings, you don't pay. Two licensing options let customers choose what fits their operation: fixed annual cost or performance-tied usage fees.
See & Spray Premium is available as a retrofit Precision Upgrade for ExactApply-equipped machines covering model years 2018 to 2026. The system is available as a factory installation or a Precision Upgrade Kit for John Deere R-Series, 400 and 600 Series, and select Hagie sprayers. For customers already running ExactApply, the foundational hardware is already in place, making the upgrade process straightforward. Talk to your SNPartners precision ag specialist about whether your machine qualifies and what a retrofit involves.
The Unlimited Annual License is built for operations covering large volumes of acres per season. Predictable cost, no per-acre tracking, and significant input savings make it a strong fit. Across more than 5 million acres, operators reduced non-residual herbicide use by an average of nearly 50%, saving close to 31 million gallons of herbicide mix. At scale, those savings add up fast.
Targeted application means herbicide goes only where weeds are present, reducing the selection pressure that drives resistance development. Above-canopy spray support, delivered via free software update in 2025, enables targeted spraying of weed escapes and volunteer corn visible above the canopy — improving late-season weed control and harvest conditions. For Missouri and Illinois growers managing waterhemp, Palmer amaranth, or marestail resistance, this is a precision tool, not just a cost-saving one.
Speed and precision don't have to be a trade-off. See & Spray operates at speeds up to 15 mph, so operators can cover more acres per day without sacrificing accuracy. Operations Center integration provides estimated time-to-empty and other in-cab data to keep things moving. For Missouri and Illinois growers facing compressed windows due to spring rain or early summer heat, that efficiency is a real advantage.
